Why do I have the feeling of stepping backwards when doing this kind of obvious processing on a picture? I always have mixed feelings about those. How do photographers handle it who do nothing else than this kind of stuff? I think there is a chance that one morning they wake up disliking all the stuff they once did.

First of all it's an awesome image. I get where you are coming from. There are lots of images if could have done different retrospectivly, but it was the vision I had at the time. So it's good being able to go back in time to see how you have evolved. I doubt you ever having to question this image.

    Good points.

What is the obvious processing for this photo? It appears rather natural to me, so if that was the goal, it's successful. :) And… I guess that's the goal and enough for a lot of landscape photographers, no?

Maybe "obvious processing" was the wrong term. I think it's the compulsive tuning of level-of-detail and contrasts as well as the lack of real shadows that irritated me about my result. There is something sterile about it that reminds me of how little I thought about where I was going with this. This is the actual “stepping backwards” part and that’s probably something only I can see and bitch about.
Anyway, there is zero importance in all this. Sorry for wasting anybody’s time :-D

Not a waste of time IMHO… it's these conversations that are the most interesting part, sometimes.

Re the processing… it depends. Some photos probably don't allow a more creative process in post because it will look forced and/or overdone, and this image could be one of them. In that case, you at least showed good taste, even if you didn't like doing it. :)

So it might be a good idea to keep the RAW-files of edited images…

Just realizing how negative that sounds. Wasn't really meant that way :-D

I don't think it so much negative, but rather the truth. This is a nice shot, no questions, but if you were to do the same type thing over and over it would grow tiresome.  I know some photogs that do many B&W LE beach shots, but will mix it up once in a while, or go on vacation and shoot other things besides the beach in LE.  If for someone, like yourself, who to say travels a lot is an understatement, traveled the world over, taking every shot in B&W LE, you would one day find yourself looking through your photos and not know the difference between one beach and the next,  Everything would be the same and yes, you'd probably hate them all.
